Took the hubby for a surprise 4 day get away to Asheville, NC for his 50th & touring the house was just one of the highlights of the trip for him. I saw him flipping through this book at the bookstore on sight & on the way home he said he wished he purchased it. As a memento I surprised him w/a copy & it was less money on than at the actual estate. Thanks !

This is a great read if you want to know more about the Vanderbilts. I purchased this book for my husband after our visit to the Biltmore estate and he enjoyed it immensely.
Comprehensive history of the family. I would have like more and better pictures of the family and their mansions.
I have wanted this book since the fourth time I visited Biltmore,one of the Vanderbilt's homes. It is a thorough, well detailed book
of the Vanderbilt family All the bloodline Vanderbilts and the many wives they married. Also, at least twenty homes are mentioned,
including pictures of the family in some of these different homes. I felt like I was on a trip while spending many hours reading and
absorbing every word written and every picture. Well worth the price, a very enjoyable book!
Oh my... what a beautiful book! The color photographs of the estates, family members and artwork were compelling! This could easily just be a 'coffee table book', however, it is also packed with detailed information about the Vanderbilt's and the oppulent life-styles they lived! I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the Victorian era, whether it be the industrial age, the clothing, the architecture or life-style, or the Vanderbilt's themselves! This book also offers a family tree for various branches of the family over 100-150 years, which was beneficial while reading, because there were so many cousins through multiple generations, it was difficult to keep track of everyone! A book you can curl-up with on a cold evening, and get lost in an era of opulence we can only dream of today!
